Thanksgiving is a time for family gatherings, holiday meals, and the start of the shopping season. But if you need to access your bank account during the holiday, you may be wondering whether banks and credit unions are open. Here’s the latest for Thanksgiving 2025.

Are Banks Open on Thanksgiving?

No. Banks will be closed on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in observance of the federal holiday.

Unlike some other federal holidays, where limited branches may remain open, no banks operate on Thanksgiving. Transactions requiring in-person assistance will need to wait until Friday, November 28, 2025, when banks reopen.

Are Credit Unions Open on Thanksgiving?

No. Credit unions also close on Thanksgiving Day.

Most credit unions follow the same federal holiday schedule as banks. Some local branches may adjust hours earlier in the week, closing early on Wednesday, November 26, or remaining closed on Friday, November 28. Always check with your specific branch for details.

Thanksgiving Week Bank Schedule (2025)

Here’s a simple breakdown of banking hours for Thanksgiving week:

  • Monday, November 24: Regular hours
  • Tuesday, November 25: Regular hours
  • Wednesday, November 26: Some banks/credit unions may close early
  • Thursday, November 27 (Thanksgiving): Closed
  • Friday, November 28 (Black Friday): Most reopen with regular hours
  • Saturday, November 29: Open if your bank normally operates Saturdays

Banking on Thanksgiving Day

Even though branches are closed, you can still manage your money:

  • ATMs are available 24/7 for deposits and withdrawals.
  • Mobile apps and online banking allow you to pay bills, transfer funds, and check balances.
  • Important note: Transactions made on Thanksgiving usually won’t post until the next business day (Friday). Some deposits may not clear until Monday, December 1, 2025.

If you need to pay bills or make deposits around Thanksgiving, plan ahead. With banks and credit unions closed on November 27, 2025, you’ll want to schedule payments early or be prepared to wait until Friday for processing.
