Here Are the Remaining Big Lots Stores After Successive Closure

Big Lots has struggled in recent years to maintain its profitability. While the retail chain isn’t at risk of collapsing currently, Big Lots is working to optimize its operations. At times, this means closing specific locations permanently, a move that Big Lots already announced it’s making this year. Here’s a look at the Big Lots closures, as well as how to find the remaining Big Lots stores.

Why Are Big Lots Stores Closing?

Generally, large retail chains like Big Lots close stores for similar reasons. In most cases, those slated for closure underperform when compared to other locations. Essentially, the stores don’t generate enough profit to justify the operating costs. When that happens, chains will shut down the stores to streamline operations and boost profits.

Selling store sites can also play a role in closures. However, new store openings may also play a role. For example, if one location is showing its age or is in a spot that doesn’t get the same traffic as it did in years past, the company decides to open a new store in an area that gets better performance, the old one may close when the new one launches.

Is Big Lots Only Closing – Not Opening – Stores in 2024?

No, Big Lots isn’t just closing stores. Instead, some cities may see new stores open. The company is targeting small towns specifically, looking for areas where there’s little competition but sufficient demand. As a result, the total number of Big Lots locations may not decline dramatically after the scheduled closures, as new store openings may offset those numbers to a degree.

Which Big Lots Stores Are Closing in 2024?

Ultimately, Big Lots has already announced some planned closures and some of the locations have even closed already. Here’s a look at the known Big Lots store closures in 2024:

  • 505 E Nifong Blvd, Columbia, MO 65201
  • 8525 Auburn Blvd, Citrus Heights, CA 95610
  • 7475 E Iliff Ave, Denver, CO 80231

Other locations in California, New York, and North Carolina are rumored to be closing as well. However, those locations have not yet been officially announced.

Are More Big Lots Stores Closing in 2024?

While Big Lots publicly announced that the stores above are closing their doors in 2024, that doesn’t mean other closures couldn’t occur during the year. However, whether that happens is ultimately up to the company. If you’re concerned about your nearest location, it’s best to monitor news or Big Lots press releases, as those are the most likely sources of closing information.

How to Find the Remaining Big Lots Stores

While Big Lots is closing multiple stores in 2024, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a decent number of locations still operating. Overall, there are approximately 1,400 Big Lots locations in the continental United States, with all but two states having at least one store.

As a result, listing out the remaining Big Lots retail locations in this article isn’t practical. Fortunately, it’s possible to find out if there is a store near you that will stay in operation through 2024 and possibly beyond.

Typically, the simplest way to find the location of Big Lots stores in your area is to head to the Big Lots store locator page. Enter your city and state or zip code into the search bar, or take advantage of the “Use My Current Location” option to find stores near you.

You can also use that page to see all of the stores in each state. Click on the state name (which has the number of current stores in that region listed in parentheses), and you’ll get redirected to a page that shows the locations in each city.

Are you a fan of Big Lots that regularly shops at one of the remaining Big Lots stores and want to tell others why you prefer the company as a retailer? Did your local Big Lots close, and did that impact how you shop? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
