The holidays are a busy time for everyone. For individuals who have to work in the days leading up to Christmas, it is hard to find time to get all of your shopping done before December 25. CardSnacks, a virtual card company, revealed that 51% of their customers sent out their cards on December 24 or 25. Not everyone wants to opt for a last-minute e-card or gift card though. Whether you are a procrastinator or just can’t find the time to get to the stores before next week, you may be asking yourself, “What time do retailers close on Christmas Eve?” Here is what you need to know about Christmas Eve store hours for some of the most popular retailers.

Walmart

When you think about major retailers, Walmart is probably one of the first to come to mind. On Christmas Eve, Walmart has historically closed around 6 p.m. local time. However, this may vary from location to location. Be sure to check your local Walmart’s hours.

Target

Most Target stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, providing a couple more shopping hours for customers than Walmart. Again, it’s best to verify this with the store closest to you.

Costco

Costco has adjusted hours on Christmas Eve. While the retailer normally opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 8:30 p.m., the hours will shift a bit. On December 24, Costco will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CVS

Many CVS locations will operate according to their normal schedules on Christmas Eve. If your nearest location is not a 24-hour store, it may be running on reduced hours for the holiday though.

Walgreens

Like CVS, most Walgreens locations will also adhere to their regular store hours. Of course, pharmacy hours vary by location, so you’ll want to call ahead and verify their hours.

Starbucks

If you’re hoping for a cup of coffee on Christmas Eve while running last-minute errands, Starbucks will likely be open. That said, each location is permitted to adjust its store hours as needed during the holiday season.

Kroger

Kroger hours on Christmas Eve will vary based on location. Certain areas or specific stores may close earlier or later than others. You’ll want to check with your local Kroger to ensure you know their Christmas Eve store.

Albertsons

Albertsons will be open on Christmas Eve, but like Kroger, hours may vary from location to location. Additionally, Albertsons pharmacies may be closed on December 24.

What Time Do Retailers Close on Christmas Eve: More Store Hours

If you are wondering about other retailers and when they close on Christmas Eve, here are a few more hours of operation to keep in mind.

  • ALDI: Stores will operate with limited hours on December 24.
  • Harris Teeter: Open until 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve
  • Home Depot: Locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • IKEA: Retailers will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Jewel-Osco: Stores and pharmacies are open on December 24 with reduced hours.
  • Lowe’s: Stores close at 6 p.m. the day ahead of Christmas.
  • Macy’s: Hours will vary based on locations, but many Macy’s are open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve
  • Meijer: Stores are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on December 24.
  • Publix: On Christmas Eve, stores close at 7 p.m., but some locations may vary.
  • Rite Aid: Some locations are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. while others (including 24-hour locations) will close at 9 p.m.
  • Safeway: Stores are open with reduced hours. It should be noted that pharmacies may also be closed or have different hours than usual.
  • Sam’s Club: Stores are open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
  • Sheetz: Stores are open with regular hours (24/7), giving you a place to stop for last-minute items.
  • Sprouts Farmer’s Market: Stores are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on December 24.
  • Trader Joe’s: Stores will close at 5 p.m. on the day before Christmas.
  • Whole Foods: Most stores are open with modified hours, varying on location.
  • 7-Eleven: This convenient store will remain open 24/7, but some locations’ hours may differ.

The websites for each of the retailers mentioned here will be available on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Shipping times and deliveries will likely be delayed due to the holiday though.

While waiting until the last minute isn’t something we’d suggest, sometimes you realize you forgot a few things on your shopping list. We’ve all been there. However, keep in mind, that it is better for your finances (and your sanity) to get your shopping done as early as possible.
