MLK Day is a Federal Holiday observed on the third Monday in January. This year, the holiday will be celebrated on January 20, 2025. Since you probably have the day off from work, you may have some errands to run, like sending a package or dropping off mail at the post office. If so, you may be wondering, “Is the post office open on MLK Day 2025?” Read on to find out all you need to know about closures and mail delivery on this holiday.

Is The Post Office Open on MLK Day 2025?

No, the post office is not open on MLK Day 2025. The post office will observe the following Federal Holidays in 2025:

  • January 20, 2025: MLK Day
  • February 17, 2025: Washington’s Birthday
  • May 26, 2025: Memorial Day
  • July 4, 2025: Independence Day
  • September 1, 2025: Labor Day
  • October 13, 2025: Columbus Day
  • November 11, 2025: Veterans Day
  • November 27, 2025: Thanksgiving
  • December 25, 2025: Christmas Day

Is There Mail Delivery on MLK Day 2025?

There is no regular mail delivery on Federal Holidays, including MLK Day. Regular mail delivery will resume on January 21, 2025. Self-service kiosks will still be available for your use if your post office has one. You can also utilize blue USPS collection boxes, which will be collected the following day. Just make sure that your mail weighs 10 ounces or less.

Priority Mail Express is still delivered 365 days a year, so MLK Day will not affect this service. Packages sent using Priority Mail Express have a 2-day delivery guarantee or your money back.

Can I Still Buy Stamps?

You can still order supplies on the USPS website, including stamps and shipping supplies. You also can track packages, change your address, hold your mail, or request a mail pick-up. You also can buy stamps at grocery stores, pharmacies, and convenience stores, all of which should be open on MLK Day.

FedEx locations inside Walgreens stores are open on MLK Day 2025 for package pickup and drop-off. Check with your local Walgreens store to see if its hours are reduced for the holiday. FedEx will also be making deliveries. There may be some modified delivery times for FedEx 1-Day Delivery, however.

UPS  will not be delivering packages on MLK Day 2025. Your local store also may be closed for the holiday. Each location has different hours, so make sure you call beforehand.
