Is Walmart Open on Memorial Day 2024?

Memorial Day is a federal holiday that’s observed on the last Monday of May, which falls on May 27 this year. The holiday honors the sacrifices of military service members who died for their country. Memorial Day has also become known as the unofficial start of the summer season, and many people host barbecues and pool parties to mark the occasion.

If you’re hosting a barbecue of your own this year, you may need to swing by the supermarket to pick up some ingredients on the holiday. Or maybe you want to head to the store to take advantage of Memorial Day sales. No matter the reason for your shopping trip, you may be wondering, is Walmart open on Memorial Day 2024? Here’s what you need to know.

Is Walmart Open on Memorial Day 2024?

Walmart is open on most federal holidays, and Memorial Day is no exception. So if you need extra burger buns or mustard for your barbecue, you can head to Walmart on the holiday to pick some up.

You can expect your nearest Walmart to be open on Memorial Day during its regular business hours. Most Walmart locations open at 6 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. But it’s never a bad idea to call your local store to confirm its operating schedule.

What Else Is Open on Memorial Day?

Although Memorial Day is a federal holiday, private businesses can decide whether or not to observe it. Most major retailers except Costco choose to stay open during their normal business hours on Memorial Day. Your favorite restaurants will likely be open on Memorial Day as well, allowing you to get a break from cooking.

Locally-owned businesses are more likely to shut down on the holiday than big chains. So it’s a good idea to call ahead and confirm store hours before you visit your favorite mom-and-pop shops.

Since Memorial Day is a federal holiday, most government offices, courthouses, banks, and post offices will be closed. Although supermarkets are usually open on the holiday, keep in mind that certain sections like the pharmacy, vision center, or tire shop may be closed.

Walmart Holiday Schedule

Is Walmart open on Memorial Day 2024? Luckily the answer is yes. But what about other holidays?

You’ll be glad to know that Walmart only observes a few major holidays. The chain typically shuts down on Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day and has reduced hours on Christmas Eve. On other holidays like Memorial Day, Easter, and Independence Day, Walmart is usually open to fulfill all of your shopping needs.

Does Walmart Have a Memorial Day Sale?

Many retailers including Walmart celebrate Memorial Day with a special holiday sale. Walmart usually releases its Memorial Day deals the week before the holiday. You can typically score significant discounts on electronics, appliances, toys, outdoor items, and more.

What are your plans for Memorial Day? Are you going to kick back and take it easy by the pool or throw a barbecue for family and friends? Share your plans in the comments!
