Last Minute Frugal Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day is in just three days and according to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend nearly $163 on Mother’s Day gifts this year. But if you are trying to pay down debt or better manage your finances, you may not have enough room in your budget for a pricy gift.

What Does Mom Want?

According to a recent poll by Insure.com, mothers’ least favorite gifts include room remodels, electronics, and household appliances. So what do Moms really want for Mother’s Day? Some of the most popular gifts include a day at the spa, time with family, gift cards, and a nice dinner. Use these ideas to make any mom feel special and loved without breaking your budget.

Look For A Deal

Many of the desired gifts can be found for an affordable price on daily deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial. For the foodie Mom, check out vouchers to restaurants in her area that she has wanted to try. For the Mom who wants relaxation and pampering, there are always great deals on spa and salon packages.

Vouchers

You can also find vouchers for popular go-to Mother’s Day gifts such as flowers and candy (I snagged a $30 credit for Proflowers.com for just $13 on LivingSocial). If you find a voucher to a retailer such as Proflowers, you are not limited to flowers and candy; many of these retailers sell an assortment of products including plants, wine gifts, spa packages, fruit, and personalized gifts.

Gift Cards

For the Mom who likes to shop (or who is difficult to shop for), check out sites that sell discounted gift cards such as Gift Card Granny.  Some think gift cards are an impersonal easy-way-out gift, but for the Mom who spends all of her time and money shopping for kids, she will be delighted to have an excuse to buy herself a little something special.

Have A Brunch For Mom

For the Mom who wants to spend time with family over a nice meal, consider preparing and hosting a brunch for your Mom with your family. Brunch costs much less to prepare than dinner and by hosting brunch yourself you will avoid scrambling for reservations, as well as the crowds on Sunday morning. Make sure you have a plan before you head to the grocery store in order to save money.
