What’s Open/Closed On Valentine’s Day 2025?

Valentine’s Day is on Friday and many people are gearing up to celebrate love. You might be planning to head out for a romantic dinner or a weekend getaway. Whatever your plans are, you might be wondering what’s open/closed on Valentine’s Day. Here’s what you need to know.

What’s Open/Closed on Valentine’s Day

If you’ve got plans to head out, you’re in luck. Not many places close for Valentine’s Day. It isn’t a federal holiday and, therefore, most businesses will stay open. However, there are some places that might be busier than usual due to the holiday. So, it’s important to plan accordingly.

Restaurants and Cafés

Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for many restaurants. You’ll likely need to make a reservation, especially at upscale places. Sometimes Valentine’s Day is booked up months in advance.

Fast food chains and other places to eat will also be open on the romantic holiday. You might want to check around and see if there are any special menu items or limited-time offers.

If you’re planning a night in, be prepared to wait a little longer for Uber Eats and DoorDash deliveries. While these apps will perform business as usual, the restaurants they pick up from will be busy. So, it may take longer to get there. You can also check out the deals at your local bakery or grocery store. Many of these storefronts offer V-Day-specific deals.

Florists and Gift Shops

Florists and gift shops will be open, with many offering extended hours to handle the Valentine’s Day rush. Expect higher prices on popular flowers like roses due to increased demand. Online flower delivery services will be available, but same-day delivery slots may fill up quickly. Some grocery stores with floral sections may also stock last-minute bouquets and gifts.

Retail Stores and Shopping Centers

Major retail stores, shopping malls, and department stores will generally remain open on Valentine’s Day. Many businesses will promote Valentine’s sales, offering discounts on jewelry, clothing, and beauty products. Some smaller boutiques and specialty stores may close early, so it’s best to check their hours in advance. Big-box retailers like Walmart and Target will operate as usual, with fully stocked seasonal aisles.

Banks and Government Offices

Most banks will be open on Valentine’s Day, as it is not a federal holiday. However, some smaller branches or local credit unions may close early, so it’s best to check ahead. Government offices, including post offices, will remain open during normal business hours. If you need to visit the DMV or any municipal office, plan accordingly, as there may be limited staff. Courthouses and public service buildings will also operate as usual unless otherwise stated.

Public Transportation and Ride-Share Services

Public transportation systems, including buses, subways, and trains, will run on regular schedules on Valentine’s Day. Some cities may offer special promotions or free rides for couples on certain transit lines. Ride-share services like Uber and Lyft will be available, but prices may surge during peak hours. If you’re planning a night out, booking your ride in advance can help avoid high fares.

Plan Ahead for a Smooth Celebration

With so many businesses and services staying open, planning a memorable Valentine’s Day should be easy. Whether you’re dining out, shopping for a special gift, or arranging a flower delivery, booking in advance will save time and hassle. Be mindful of potential crowds, especially at restaurants and popular date spots. If you’re traveling, consider alternative transportation options to avoid high ride-share prices. For a stress-free celebration, double-check store hours and service availability before heading out. No matter how you choose to spend the day, making thoughtful arrangements will ensure a smooth and enjoyable Valentine’s Day 2025.
