Thanksgiving has long been a day for family gatherings, turkey dinners, and football games. In recent years, however, many retailers experimented with opening their doors on Thanksgiving to jumpstart Black Friday sales. Walmart, once part of that trend, has now firmly committed to keeping its stores closed on Thanksgiving Day, giving employees time off to spend with loved ones.
Is Walmart Open on Thanksgiving Day 2025?
No. All Walmart Supercenters and grocery stores will be closed on Thursday, November 27, 2025. Although the retailer was once open on Thanksgiving, that changed in 2020 during the pandemic, and they haven’t gone back to those early Black Friday shopping hours.
That said, Walmart.com remains open 24/7, and shoppers can browse and purchase items. However, order processing and deliveries will not occur until after Thanksgiving.

Shoppers can expect discounts on TVs, gaming consoles, appliances, and other holiday favorites. Some online-only specials will also be available.
It’s always best to plan your shopping trip ahead to maximize savings and, let’s be honest, get out of there fast. The Walmart app and online store maps help customers plan their shopping trip, showing exactly where deals are located in each store.
